In the territory of the Altyn Emel National Park, there is an amazing natural
wonder – the “Singing Dune.” It stretches for 3 km and rises about 150 meters
high. Enthusiasts enjoy sliding down its slopes on skis and snowboards.
Sometimes, the dune “sings,” producing sounds similar to an organ or even a jet
engine. However, after rain, the dune remains silent.
The Singing Dune is flanked by the Big and Small Kalkans mountains to the east
and west, nearly closing in the north. To the south, the Ili River flows, adding
to the stunning landscape.
The Chalky Mountains of Aktau lie on the eastern edge of Altyn Emel National
Park. These mesmerizing mountains showcase a breathtaking range of colors and
were formed millions of years ago. Back then, dinosaurs roamed the land, and an
ancient ocean covered the area. The Aktau Mountains stretch for about thirty
kilometers. The soil contains fossilized remains of ancient plants, giant
turtles, crocodiles, and other prehistoric creatures.
